The Kamayani Express was the first to derail, followed by the Janata Express. While a large part of the Kamayani Express had managed to cross the bridge, the Janata Express engine still lay on the bridge.

At least 27 people have been killed after the Kamayani Express from Mumbai to Varanasi and the Mumbai-Jabalpur Janata Express derailed near Kudawa railway station in Madhya Pradesh, late on Tuesday night.
