Jasbir Singh Gill biography

Jasbir Singh Gill, fondly known as Dimpa, is a stalwart in India's political landscape. He was born in the historic city of Amritsar, Punjab, on November 8, 1968. He was born into a political family, and his father, the late Sant Singh Liddar, was a member of the Punjab legislative assembly from the Beas constituency. Tragically, his father lost his life in a battle against terrorists when he was just 18.

His foray into politics began in 1982 when he was elected as the Sarpanch of Lidhar village in Punjab. His leadership skills were recognised early on, leading to his appointment as the president of the Punjab Youth Congress (1997-1999) and later as General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress (1999-2005).

His political acumen led him to win his first assembly election from Beas (renamed Baba Bakala in 2012) in 2002. He defeated Manjinder Singh Kang from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) by a margin of 6450 votes, marking his entry into the Punjab legislative assembly. He served as the chairman of the Punjab water supply and sewerage board (2003-2007) and also chaired the Public Accounts, Estimates, and Petition Committee of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

His political journey reached a pinnacle when he was elected as a Member of Parliament to the 17th Lok Sabha from Khadoor Sahib of Punjab. He won the Lok Sabha election in 2019 as an Indian National Congress candidate.
