Amit Shah BIOGRAPHY

Last Updated : 22 Jan 2025
Amit Shah took charge of Home Minister on July 11, 2024 after Narendra Modi-led NDA formed government. Shah, 59, who has been holding the portfolio since 2019, has returned to the Modi 3.0 government in the same capacity. Shah said the new government will take its efforts for India’s security to the next level and build Bharat as a bulwark against terrorism, insurgency and Naxalism. As a close confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the former president of the BJP, Shah's astute political acumen, organizational skills, and strategic thinking have been instrumental in shaping the party's rise to power and consolidating its position as a formidable force in Indian politics. Born on October 22, 1964, in Gujarat, Amit Shah has had a long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and has been a dedicated member of the BJP for several decades. His early political career was marked by his active involvement in grassroots politics, where he worked tirelessly to expand the party's base in Gujarat. Shah's organizational abilities and his strong connect with the party cadre played a significant role in the BJP's electoral successes in the state. Shah comes from an affluent family and the ancestral house in Mansa is a heritage building. Interested in national politics since the early 1980s, he gave up his PVC pipes business to join politics full-time. National issues interested him even when he was a VHP worker. He has never lost an election he has contested. He is known to be in direct touch with cadres and district leaders. One of Amit Shah's notable achievements was his pivotal role as the BJP's chief strategist during the 2014 General Elections, where the party secured a historic victory and formed the government at the centre. Shah's meticulous planning, micro-level booth management, and data-driven campaign approach were instrumental in the BJP's success, which saw them winning a majority of seats in the Lok Sabha. Moreover, Amit Shah's role as the Union Home Minister has also enhanced his profile and influence. As the head of the Home Ministry, he has been responsible for critical policy decisions and overseeing matters related to internal security, law and order, and border management. His firm approach to national security issues and his efforts to tackle cross-border terrorism have garnered him a reputation as a strong leader capable of maintaining law and order and safeguarding the nation's interests. Furthermore, Amit Shah's skills as a coalition builder have been crucial in expanding the BJP's reach and forming alliances with regional parties. His ability to forge partnerships and negotiate complex political landscapes has helped the party strengthen its presence in states where it traditionally had limited influence.
