Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency: One of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad, was established as a Lok Sabha constituency in 2008 as part of the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies based on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India, which was constituted in 2002 and is made up of five Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) segments, namely Loni, Muradnagar, Sahibabad, and Ghaziabad.

The Ghaziabad constituency has gained a reputation for being a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the party’s candidates consistently winning by significant margins in the three elections held in this constituency, and the BJP’s vote share increasing with each successive election, further solidifying their position in this constituency.

Previously, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, General VK Singh of the BJP emerged victorious in Ghaziabad with a significant margin, securing 9,44,503 votes. His closest competitor, Suresh Bansal from the Samajwadi Party (SP), trailed with 4,43,300 votes, pushing the Congress to the third position.

The upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Ghaziabad constituency, are expected to be an electoral contest between the BJP’s Atul Garg and Dolly Sharma from Congress, in the second phase of elections on April 26, with the election results set to be announced on June 4th.

Sharma entered the political arena during the 2017 urban local body elections, where she competed for the mayoral position in Ghaziabad but was unsuccessful, losing to the BJP’s Asha Sharma. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Sharma, one of the youngest and only two female candidates, contested against Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Gen. VK Singh. Despite her efforts, VK Singh secured a significant lead with 9.44 lakh votes, representing almost a 62% majority, while Dolly Sharma garnered 1.11 lakh votes.
