Days after Congress leader Mukul Vasnik said that if BJP wins the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it will prove to be the last elections in the country, as the latter would attempt to abolish the Constitution, Gujarat BJP president C R Paatil said on Friday that this shows that Congress is “confident” of losing the elections starting April 19.

Paatil was addressing BJP’s booth leaders at a convention in Jamnagar. BJP candidate from the Jamnagar constituency and sitting MP Poonam Maadam was also present on the occasion.

Unveiling the Congress’ manifesto at party state headquarters in Ahmedabad, Wasnik had said that Indian democracy is facing “tremendous challenge”. “If unfortunately, Narendra Modi and the BJP come to power, then it will have to be accepted that the Lok Sabha elections being held this time will be the last elections… BJP will do the work of abolishing the Constitution of this country, evident by what it has done in the last 10 years,” he had added.

Paatil said, “Recently, while making suggestions to party workers, Congress’ Gujarat in charge, Mukul Vasnik, said that if BJP wins the elections this time then it would be the last election. He (Wasnik) is confident that now, they are not going to win any election… Your (Congress) last elections have been over a long time ago.”
“The BJP workers are going to fight these polls in such a manner that Congress will not find a candidate next time,” he added.

In his speech, Paatil asked the workers to be ambitious. Citing the example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that Modi is the only PM who has reached the top post while declaring that he wanted to become the PM. “One should have ambitions… But the means should be correct. It should be through work and not by spreading false news and rumours about someone,” Paatil said.

“PM Modi has provided tickets to so many ordinary workers and made them members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly… so, the workers should continue to work hard for the party,” he added.

Later in the day, Paatil addressed a meeting of people from all the communities at Bhathhena in Surat. He also attended a function at Bhestan in Surat, where some local Congress leaders joined the BJP. “This time, only Modiji is fighting on the 543 seats. Forget the candidate, and vote for Modi,” he said on the occasion.
