Eaton Canyon Fire, Pacific Palisades: In what is being dubbed as the worst wildfire Los Angeles has seen in the history, more than 1,00,000 people have been evacuated and US President Joe Biden has formally signed off on a federal disaster declaration as five people are reported dead in the wildfire.
Celebrities including Jamie Lee Curtis, Mandy Moore, Maria Shriver, Paris Hilton and others were among the list of evacuees as the out of control wildfire raged across Los Angeles, consuming 12,000 acres in Pacific Palisades and leaving over 1.5 million homes and businesses without power.
“Southern California is continuing to endure some of the most historic fire conditions on record,” Los Angeles City Fire Chief Kristin Crowley said. Meanwhile, the water is running short in battle against Los Angeles wildfires.
Ahead of the windstorm, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said that it had filled all available water tanks in the city, including three 1-million-gallon (3.8-million-litre) tanks in the Palisades area, Reuters reported.
The Saint Monica mountains and Pacific Ocean border the Pacific Palisades, where the media price of a home is $4.5 million. The Palisades is home to several celebrities as well as Getty Villa, which is one of the most well known museums in Los Angeles.
Due to the raging wildfire, production of TV shows including “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “Grey’s Anatomy” were halted on Wednesday and multiple premiers of films were canceled.
The famous HOLLYWOOD sign in the hills above Los Angeles was also blocked for the public by the city administration. Actor Mark Hamill, known for “Star War” films, said the blaze was the “most horrific” since 1993.
“Honestly, I’m in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family,” actress-singer Mandy Moore said while posting a video on Instagram displaying devastated streets in the Altadena neighborhood near Pasadena.
According to a forecaster AccuWeather of the United States, the damage and economic loss from the raging Los Angeles wildfire is estimated to be around $52 billion to $57 billion on a preliminary basis.
The forecast further added that the damage figure could rise depending upon the deteriorating situation due to wildfire. According to state officials, over 1,000 structures have burned so far.
