Airports across the United States are expected to witness significant changes in the coming days after removing shoes at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints was struck off. A new set of rules and regulations may soon be released after Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem hinted at possible changes to rules regarding the amount of liquids passengers can carry in their hand luggage. The new changes are expected to provide clearer guidelines on liquid limits in carry-on baggage.

US has placed a multi-layered screening process in TSA for security. “The liquids, I’m questioning. So that may be the next big announcement is what size your liquids need to be. We have put in place in TSA a multilayered screening process that allows us to change some of how we do security and screening so it’s still as safe,” Noem said at a press conference on Wednesday.

However, Noem did not provide details about what those changes might be or how quickly the travellers could expect see them implemented.

What US’ TSA rules says

As per reports, the TSA guidance said that a passenger can carry liquids weighing 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less  in travel-sized containers in their carry-on bag. “Those containers must be placed in a one-quart resealable plastic bag. Bigger containers must go in checked baggage, though there are exceptions for medications and baby formula,” Associated Press reported.

Earlier this month, Noem announced that flyers will no longer required to take their shoes off while going through screening process. This came after a successful pilot program showed that TSA had the equipment needed to keep airports and aircraft safe while allowing people to keep their shoes on.

Future of airport travel in US

Noem also spoke about her vision for the future of airport travel. “Hopefully, the future of an airport, where I’m looking to go is that you walk in the door with your carry-on suitcase, you walk through a scanner and go right to your plane. It takes you one minute,” Noem said.
