In order to end the three years long Russia-Ukraine war, the United States under President Donald Trump is all set to host talks in Saudi Arabia with Russia but Ukraine has not been invited, a BBC report stated quoting a senior Ukrainian government source.
The reports suggest that European leaders have also not been invited to the talks scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia, and French President Emmanuel Macron has invited the European leaders to a summit in Paris on Monday as the apprehension grows of the continent being ignored for the talks.
About a week after President Trump held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the White House’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz all confirmed that they were travelling to the Middle East for the first one on one talks with Russian counterparts to end the conflict.
Rubio, in an interview to CBC News said, “President Trump spoke to Vladimir Putin last week, and in it, Vladimir Putin expressed his interest in peace, and the president expressed his desire to see an end to this conflict in a way that was enduring and that protected Ukrainian sovereignty.”
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already announced that he would reject any negotiations done without Kyiv as a party to the talks and that he would “never accept any decisions between the United States and Russia about Ukraine, never”.
