Massive protests have erupted across Israel after six hostages died in Gaza and the Israeli government couldn’t strike a ceasefire deal with Hamas to let the hostages free.

Crowds to the estimate of around 5,00,000 demonstrated in capital Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities against the administration to bring back the remaining 101 hostages and demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu do more in the matter.

According to a report in news agency Reuters, protesters in Jerusalem blocked streets and even protested in front of the prime minister’s residence. Pictures of the main highway in Tel Aviv showed protesters filled with flags having pictures of the slain hostages.

Israel’s local media has reported that around 29 people have been arrested related to the protests. The aerial footage showed that police used water canons at the demonstrators who had blocked the highway and roads.

US President Joe Biden issued a statement regarding the death of six Israeli hostages in Gaza and said he was “devastated and outraged” by the passing away of 23-year-old Israeli American Goldberg-Polin and other hostages.

Biden added, “Hamas leaders will pay for these crimes. And we will keep working around the clock for a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages.”

The deal between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire to a 11 month war still hangs in limbo and the pressure on Israeli administration is also escalating to get the hostages back safely.

PM Netanyahu reacted to the killings of hostages and said, “Whoever murders hostages – does not want a deal.”

The war between Israel and Gaza began in October 2023 and since then, close to 41,000 Palestinians have been killed, the Gaza health ministry stated.
