During the closing argument at the Ellipse lawn in Washington D.C, Vice President Kamala Harris warned the American people of the dangers another presidency by Republican candidate Donald Trump holds and how he is seeking unchecked powers as the race to the White House entered its last week.

Harris, who spoke at the site where Trump gave the infamous Jan 6, 2021 speech which was followed by the US Capitol riots, saw a crowd of over 75,000 and she said that “We know who Donald Trump is, this is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance, and out for unchecked power.”

Harris further accused the former president as someone who “sent an armed mob” to the US Capitol in order to sabotage the 2020 US presidential election results and overturn his loss.

Detailing about her experience of living the American dream, Harris said, “Growing up, I was blessed to have family by blood and family by love, who instilled in me the values of community, compassion and faith that have always defined our nation at its best. I’ve lived the promise of America.”

Harris also thanked incumbent President Joe Biden and said she has been honoured to serve under him but stated that if she is elected to the White House, she would work differently and bring her own experiences and ideas to the Oval Office.

Harris said, “My presidency will be different because the challenges we face are different. Our top priority as a nation four years ago was to end the pandemic and rescue the economy. Now our biggest challenge is to lower costs, costs that were rising even before the pandemic, and that are still too high.”

Harris said that it is time for the American people to turn the page of Trump’s era which ushered in US politics. The Election Day is scheduled on November 5 and Harris is still leading by a 1% margin in Reuters/Ipsos latest poll.
