Rockland Ottawa Stabbing: An Indian national was stabbed to death in Rockland, near Ottawa, the Indian Embassy in Canada confirmed on Saturday.
According to CTV News, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that a shooting occurred near Lalonde Street shortly before 3 pm on Friday — located 40 kilometres east of downtown Ottawa.
The local police have taken a suspect into custody in connection with the attack, but the motive remains unknown, the Indian Embassy said in a statement.
The High Commission of India in Ottawa said it is in close contact with the victim’s family. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of an Indian national in Rockland near Ottawa due to stabbing. Police have stated that a suspect has been taken into custody. We are in close contact through a local community association to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved kin,” the Indian Embassy in Canada wrote in X.
While a person is in custody, police have not disclosed what charges they may be facing, the report stated. The OPP assured the public that there is no threat to public safety.
“As we are in the early stages of the investigation, no additional information can be shared at this time,” CTV News reported, quoting the OPP.
