US lawmakers in Washington are preparing for a fresh push on the Jeffrey Epstein case as victims of the disgraced financier are set to speak out publicly for the first time.
Reps Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie announced they will hold a press conference on Wednesday with 10 Epstein victims, “many who have never spoken out before.”
“They’re going to be on the steps of the Capitol,” Khanna said in an NBC interview. “They will be telling their story, and they will be saying clearly to the American public that they want the release of the Epstein files for full closure on this matter.”
The move comes after months of outcry over how the White House and Justice Department have handled the case.
Earlier this summer, the FBI and DOJ announced they had found no evidence of a rumoured “client list” and were closing further investigations, a decision that angered many on the right, according to Politico.
The frustration boiled over among some of Trump’s allies, who demanded accountability from Attorney General Pam Bondi. Conservative commentators including Laura Loomer and Liz Wheeler went as far as calling for Bondi’s resignation.
President Donald Trump added to the controversy in July, dismissing the Epstein case as a Democratic “hoax” and distancing himself from what he called his “PAST supporters” who “bought into this ‘bullshit,’ hook, line, and sinker.”
In response, Khanna and Massie introduced a discharge petition aimed at forcing the release of DOJ records on Epstein. Khanna told NBC that the measure will go live on September 2 and has strong bipartisan backing.
“I’m very confident it will [pass],” Khanna said. “We have all 212 Democrats committed to signing it. He [Massie] has 12 Republicans. Only six of them have to sign it.”
The Justice Department has already begun transmitting certain files to the House Oversight Committee under an August subpoena, but Khanna and Massie argued that broader disclosure is necessary to deliver transparency and closure.
