House Republicans on Wednesday released around 23,000 pages of documents from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein. The trove of documents was made public by Republicans, hours after Democrats on the House Oversight committee released three email chains from Epstein suggesting that Trump was aware of Epstein’s sex trafficking.
According to The New York Times, the documents released by Republicans on Wednesday were obtained by the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Representative James Comer, through a subpoena in August.
For a long time, Republicans had maintained that they would release all the documents obtained from Epstein’s estate, but dragged their foot until now.
Earlier, the White House had reacted to the release of Epstein’s emails by Democrats, calling it a fake narrative to smear President Trump.
“The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday.
Responding to the release of the emails, Trump said Republicans should ignore the latest developments.
“The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown, and so many other subjects,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.”
He added that “any Republicans involved should be focused only on opening up our Country, and fixing the massive damage caused by the Democrats!”
