Torrential rains in Bengaluru led to heavy traffic, leaving commuters stranded at Electronics City flyover for more than two hours. According to photos and videos shared on social media, people were forced to abandon their vehicles and walk back home on Wednesday evening after the Bengaluru traffic police shut a side of the flyover.

“Electronic city flyover – incoming to city only – is closed due to waterlogging at Roopena Agrahara. Outgoing is as usual,” cops said, as reported by Hindustan Times. The viral video shows numerous vehicles—buses, cars, and two-wheelers— stuck on the flyover and the road. Many commuters can be seen filming the traffic snarls from the flyover.

Another post gives a clear view of the traffic congestion at the Electronic City flyover towards Madiwala. “Complete chaos!! In this situation, if there is a medical emergency then there is no chances of survival. Electronic City flyover towards Madiwala is almost completely jammed Vehicles were not at all moving almost 2.30hrs for just 2 km,” a user wrote on X.

Many users flocked to the comment section slamming the authorities for traffic congestion amid heavy rain. “Bangalore will come in future case study as a failed and abandoned city. The voters vote for thugs and corrupts who eat funds like snacks. A single road was laid 4 times in a year after BWSSB dug it for repairs,” a user wrote. “Hopefully finally it dawns on people and the government that we need to make our city walkable, cycle and public transit friendly. No amount of flyovers and road widening helps solve traffic!!” another user commented.

Heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning was likely to continue in Bengaluru until October 24, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert on Tuesday.
