Apple is yet to ship its first consumer VR headset—Vision Pro, set to go on sale in the US by early 2024. According to a report by MacRumors, Cupertino is already working on its successor, likely to be called the second-generation Vision Pro.

Internally known as Alaksa N109, the second-generation Vision Pro is said to look similar to its predecessor. However, Apple is reported to have made minor design changes, including the displacement of buttons and speakers to enhance user-friendliness.

Similarly, the report also highlights the early prototype of the Vision Pro successor, which includes flat temples instead of rounded areas with speakers. Additionally, the rear strap of the Vision Pro is reported to have received an upgrade, appearing simpler and offering enhanced comfort during extended VR sessions.

Similar to the first-generation Vision Pro, the second-generation model is expected to offer a modular battery pack design, requiring an external battery pack to power the headset. Moreover, the next Vision Pro is anticipated to come with an audio accessory.

The hardware and sensor array on the next Vision Pro is said to be akin to the original model, featuring 2 OLED screens with micro LED technology, a TrueDepth camera system, four computer vision cameras, two RGB cameras, a pair of low-light infrared illuminators, and a host of sensors including a compass, ambient light sensor, magnetometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope.

The second-generation Vision Pro is currently said to be in the validating testing stage. Considering the current state of the new Vision Pro, Apple is expected to launch it by late 2025 or early 2026 and is reported to be slightly more affordable than the current model.
