Pokémon GO has not even launched globally yet; the servers keep crashing, but that hasn’t stopped Niantic from announcing new features that will find their way to the game. Niantic’s CEO and founder, John Hanke stopped by Comic-Con in San Diego, and in a conversation with host Chris Hardwick, founder of Nerdist, he talked about the game and its future.

Hanke apologised for the servers going down, but said the servers were not provisioned to handle Pokémon GO’s popularity and were overwhelmed by the sheer number of players. He added that Niantic’s engineers are working hard on keeping the servers up, and no new feature will be added until the servers are reliable. The company is also working on fixing the Pokémon radar system.

“There are no Pokémon Centres in the game right now, and other functionalities that we want to bring to it (the game), probably the ability to customise PokéStops along with your friends and teammates and build up and area,” Hanke said. Pokémon Centres will allow you to heal your pokémon, just like in the anime.

Currently the game will let you catch 151 of the original pokémon from the anime, but new pokémon will be added eventually. This is exciting new, as there are actually close to 720 of these virtual animals in the series.

Hanke also announced that the company will be announcing about the teams, which will play a greater role in a player’s Pokémon journey. Players get to choose between one of three Pokémon teams – Team Valor (Red), Team Instinct (Yellow) and Team Mystic (Blue).

Pokémon GO has broken the Apple App Store records, when you consider the number of total downloads from the store. Other data shows the app has beaten Tinder, Twitter when it comes to daily active users. Recent data showed people were spending more time on the app, close to 75 minutes, double of what they were spending on Facebook.
