As morphed image of smiling Vinesh Phogat, Sangeeta Phogat surfaces on Twitter, Bajrang Punia says wrestlers will take legal action

On Sunday, Delhi Police has detained protesting wrestlers, who were trying to march towards the new Parliament from their site of protest at Jantar Mantar.

As morphed photo of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat smiling in a vehicle surfaced on Twitter, Bajrang Punia said the wrestlers will take legal action on people circulating the fake image.

IT Cell वाले ये झूठी तस्वीर फैला रहे हैं। हम ये साफ़ कर देते हैं की जो भी ये फ़र्ज़ी तस्वीर पोस्ट करेगा उसके ख़िलाफ़ शिकायत दर्ज की जाएगी। (IT Cell people are spreading this false picture. We make it clear that a complaint will be filed against whoever posts this fake picture),” a post from Punia’s Twitter account said.

Punia also shared the real photo alongside the morphed image where Vinesh and Sangeeta were not smiling.

On Sunday, Delhi Police has detained protesting wrestlers, who were trying to march towards the new Parliament from their site of protest at Jantar Mantar.

Protest site at Jantar Mantar has also been being cleared by police after wrestlers and supporters were detained.

Videos showed a scuffle breaking out between protesters and police personnel even as the former tried to resist. In one of the videos, a few female police officers can be seen forcefully dragging a woman away from the protest site.

The wrestlers protesting at Jantar Mantar, about two kilometres from the parliament building, had said they will go ahead with their “Mahila Mahapanchayat” near the new building at any cost.

Earlier, Sakshi Malik has appealed to the international fraternity to extend their support to the protesting wrestlers.

“To all my international fraternity. Our Prime Minister is inaugurating our new parliament. But on the other hand, Our supporters has been arrested for supporting us,” she tweeted.

“By arresting people how we can call us “mother of democracy.” India’s daughters are in pain.”
