After the Indian Premier League 2025 match between the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, Mumbai Indians opener and former captain Rohit Sharma lightened the mood by advising LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka ‘not to worry’.
“Sir, why worry when you have Lord?” Rohit asked Goenka, chuckling as he mentioned Shadul Thakur. LSG won their first home game at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday by 12 runs over MI. After being put in to bat, Lucknow scored 204 and restricted Mumbai to 191 for five in 20 overs, denying the visitors their second victory.
Goenka was seen having animated discussions with LSG captain Rishabh Pant following their losses. Goenka had these conversations at the ground last season as well, where he appeared visibly frustrated next to their former captain KL Rahul following LSG’s loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was widely criticised.
On Saturday, the target that appeared manageable for MI became insurmountable after Shardul bowled an exceptional penultimate over, leaking only seven runs, leaving Mumbai with 22 for the final over. Tilak Varma was retired out in the same over after his 23-ball struggle in the middle. The 22-year-old struggled to accelerate and get any good connection with the ball.
Shardul picked Ryan Rickelton’s wicket, who had hit a blazing fifty in the previous game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, and dismissed him for just 10.

LSG roped in Shardul for a base price of Rs 2 crores as a replacement of left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan who was ruled out of the tournament due to a calf injury.
Thakur had gone unsold in the IPL mega auction and joined the team ahead of their opening game against Delhi Capitals in Vizag. The right-arm pacer had a brilliant start to this tournament. He held the Orange Cap at some point and registered an impressive figure of 4/34 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, helping his team to beat SRH by 7 wickets.
Currently, he sits fifth on the list of highest-wicket takers with seven wickets in four games.
