Team India will usher in a new era when Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side in a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting Sunday in Pallekele.
The tour to the island nation will also be a first for Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the senior men’s side, taking over from Rahul Dravid. Rohit Sharma, now retired from T20Is, will return to lead the side in the three-match ODI series that will follow the T20I leg. Both Rohit and Virat Kohli will be playing their first ODI since the World Cup final defeat against Australia in Ahmedabad last year.
Sri Lanka will also witness a change of guard in the shortest format with Charith Asalanka taking over as captain from Wanindu Hasaranga and Sanath Jayasuriya taking charge as interim head coach, replacing Chris Silverwood. The ODI series will begin on August 2 and be played in Colombo.
