Mulayam pulls up ministers, warns against groupism

Yadav also warned against groupism and infighting in the party.

In a stern warning to ministers in Akhilesh Yadav government,SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav Monday said they will be held responsible and face action if party’s Lok Sabha candidate suffered loss in their constituencies.

“If any candidate loses from a minister or a legislator’s constituency,it means that his (minister/MLA’s) popularity is on the decline. The party will then reconsider its decision about him. I am keeping an eye on every seat now,” Mulayam said.

Addressing party leaders, including MPs,Lok Sabha candidates, legislators and officer-bearers from across the state at the party headquarters in Lucknow,Mulayam also reprimanded the cabinet ministers for lack of coordination with their respective ministers of state.

“I have the information that ministers of state have not been given any work. Their should be a division of work with them,” he said.

Recently, most of the ministers in the state had met Mulayam claiming that they have been sitting idle for the last 18 months ever since the SP government was formed as no work is assigned to them by their seniors.

Stating that the party contests elections with the help of workers, the SP supremo told the ministers “to not ignore them”.

He also warned against groupism and infighting in the party and asked the leaders to mend their ways or face action.

PTI quoted a source, who attended the meeting,as saying that Mulayam came down heavily on a Cabinet minister against whom he had received a number of complaints. The minister was in the news for reaching late at a recent laptop distribution programme after which a girl was allegedly raped.

The SP supremo also expressed concern over the incident where personal staff of senior minister Azam Khan had refused to work under him. “It is a sad development. Such a situation should not occur with a senior minister,” Mulayam said. Khan was present on the dais.
