IMG reviews progress of 14 coal blocks

The coal ministry had earlier asked the firms to make presentations before the IMG on meeting the milestones.

The Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) on coal blocks today reviewed the progress of 14 mines allotted to firms like Jaiprakash Associates,Monnet Ispat & Energy and Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL).

No decision,however,was taken,a source said. The panel had on Thursday reviewed the performance of 16 mines alloted to firms including NTPC,SAIL and Tata Power. Some of the companies present gave reasons like lack of environmental clearances and regulatory hurdles for delays in development of the mines.

On Wednesday the panel reviewed the progress of 17 mines and recommended that show-cause notices be issued to some of the companies for delays in developing them.
