SHARJAH, MARCH 27: Former Test left-arm spinner Bapu Nadkarni has criticised the “jam-packed” schedule on the cricket calender saying “too much of cricket” was reflecting on the performance and affecting health of the players.
“Even before cricketers can think about what happened yesterday, they are playing another match,” he said.
The veteran, whose nagging left-arm spin bowling used to tie down batsmen, said he was worried about the attitude of the present lot of cricketers towards the game. “It’s got to change for the better,” he insisted.
Remembered for his amazing figures of 29-26-3-0 against England at Chennai in 1964, Nadkarni said the nature of the game had changed.
Nadkarni said: “Look at today’s bowlers, they bowl four out of six deliveries outside the stumps. The batsmen are now confident if they miss (the ball) they will not be bowled. This is not bowling,” he said.
