Expressing displeasure over the conduct of MPs in Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chaterjee said that the lawmakers were more interested in making noise to grab media attention rather than raising issues of national importance.
There is some pressure in Parliament these days because all the members just make noise and do sit-in demonstrations. No one wants to raise any question or to make speech or to debate on any issue. They think that they will get political mileage as well as media attention by doing demonstrations and making noise, he said.
Responding to a query on whether he was disappointed with his party CPI(M), Chaterjee said he is not a member of any political party. Any way, “no one is happy these days,” he said talking to journalists at the sidelight of a book release function at Meharban, 30 kilometres from here.
Chaterjee also urged all the political parties to come together to discuss issues such as poverty, economic recession and terrorism.
All parties should come together for the development of the nation not to make noise, he said.
Chaterjee was here to attend a book release function of ‘Gramsabha se Lok Sabha Tak’ written by former Rajya Sabha member Chaudhary Harmohan yadav.
The function was attended by Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav, Andhra Pradesh legislative council president Chakrapani yadav and Uttar Pradesh legislative council member Seema Rijvi among others.
