On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the golden jubilee year of Indian independence, the Netaji Subhas Chandra Centenary Celebrations Committee has organised a joint photo exhibition of Netaji and Bangabandhu Mujib at the Jehangir Art Gallery.
The convenor of the exhibition, Shalil Ghosh, felt that the two leaders of the sub-continent, Bose and Mujib, were instrumental in ushering freedom into their countries. "And yet they remain the most tragic figures in their own lands, since their ungrateful countrymen in power tried to erase their names from the pages of history, thereby downgrading their patriotism, sacrifice and dedication to their ideals," he said.
Ghosh also lamented the fact that resident Bengalis had not contributed to this endeavour at all. "Most of them only come alive in organising the Durga Puja," he fumed.
While pictures from the life and times of Bose have been acquired by the Ananda Bazar Patrika group, Calcutta, those of his Bangladeshi counterpart have been procured from the Bangladesh Muktijudha Museum, Dhaka.
