CHANDIGARH, Aug 12: Former immigration officer V. S. A. S. P. Raju, accused of accepting Rs 2,000 as illegal gratification, was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2,000 by UT Additional District and Sessions Judge S. S. Lamba, here today.

Co-accused Harbhajan Singh was, however, acquitted in the case.

The duo were earlier booked by the Vigilance Department of the Chandigarh Police under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the prosecution, the accused were nabbed while accepting the amount from the former president of the Samajwadi Janata Party Anil Khosla, accompanied by Davinder Singh Babla.
