A pilot model of the Computerised Inventory Control Project (CIPC), which will help the Army’s Ordnance Corp take stock of inventory, was inaugurated today.
The CIPC is awaiting the Defence Ministry’s approval for its second phase. Army sources said the project is user-friendly. At the click of a button, it can track down inventory, tell the user its status and cater to formations when the demand for an item is made.
Lt Gen S.J. Saighal, Master General of Ordnance, who inaugurated the CIPC said: ‘‘It will help in cost cutting, perhaps as much as a crore a day.’’ The project was started two years ago by the Central Ordnance Depot (COD), Delhi Cantonment, in partnership with Tata Infotech.
The Ordnance Corp, which has stocks worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore, said that through the pilot project ‘‘roughly 15 to 20 per cent of the inventory was covered.’’
