Queen Elizabeth is trying her best to ban the controversial BBC film, the trailer of which wrongly showed her storming out of a photoshoot, a leading daily reported here on Sunday.
Buckingham Palace and the BBC are at loggerheads over the Corporation’s refusal to scrap the documentary film, the Daily Mail reported, quoting well-placed sources without revealing their names.
Though BBC has assured the Queen that it would ensure the final edit of the programme, titled A Year With The Queen, so that viewers were not misled, the Palace is still not convinced and sticking to its demand to ban the film.
In fact, the Palace has protested, arguing that neither they nor the viewing public could have any confidence in the film and called for the scrapping of the broadcast, according to the sources.
However, the Corporation issued a statement on Saturday, saying that it has launched a probe into the matter.
“The BBC has commissioned Will Wyatt (a former Managing Director of BBC Broadcast) to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the inclusion of this project in the recent BBC1 autumn launch. We do not feel it appropriate to comment on matters relating to this until the inquiry has reported,” the Corporation was quoted.
But, a BBC source told the daily that he saw no reason why the film shouldn’t be broadcast. “It was well-researched.”
It may be recalled that the BBC was compelled to apologise to the Queen two weeks back for mistakenly showing footage that wrongly implied she walked out of the photoshoot with celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz during the documentary. In fact, the footage was actually filmed as the Queen made her way to the sitting.
