Priyanka Chopra recently went down memory lane, recalling the first piece of “substantial jewellery” she bought with her money. “The first piece of substantial jewellery that I think I bought was a 2-carat diamond very early. It was from the signing amount of one of my first films. My mother said, ‘This was me becoming a woman’, buying my own jewellery myself, my own diamonds myself,” Chopra told The Hollywood Reporter India.

Considering diamonds are a girl’s best friend, we reached out to an expert to understand what such empowering gestures mean as a woman.

When Priyanka bought that diamond, it wasn’t the start of a shopping spree. It was the start of a statement: I am enough. I can celebrate myself, said Delnna Rrajesh, psychotherapist and life coach.

When a woman tends to her needs — emotional, physical, and material —she is not being indulgent. “She is honouring herself. This self-honour creates an internal balance in which joy isn’t outsourced to another person. It comes from within,” expressed Delnna.

According to Delnna, women who learn to own their desires, their pleasures, and their financial power stop waiting for someone else to make them feel valued. “They start setting the standard for how they want to be treated,” said Delnna.

Buying yourself something -whether it’s a diamond, a book, or a weekend retreat -is not about the price tag. It is where emotional independence begins. “A woman who knows how to cherish herself no longer depends on external gestures to feel special. She creates her own experiences,” shared Delnna.

How does it change relationships?

Interestingly, when a woman starts honouring her worth, her relationships shift too. “The dynamic moves from expectation to resonance. She no longer attracts people who treat her like an afterthought. She draws in those who meet her at the level of her self-worth,” said Delnna.

This is where a new definition of worth comes from:

*Worth isn’t built in grand gestures. It’s built into daily choices. The choice to:
*Not wait for permission to feel special
*Speak your needs with clarity
*Invest in your joy without guilt
*Treat yourself with the same tenderness you wish to receive
