10th swine flu death in Delhi

Swine flu claimed its tenth victim in Delhi when a 26-year-old man undergoing treatment at the RML hospital succumbed to the viral infection.

Swine flu claimed its tenth victim in the city today when a 26-year-old man undergoing treatment at the RML hospital in New Delhi succumbed to the viral infection.

Despite various measures taken up by the government,six persons have died in as many days in the city since September 10.

A 40-year-old woman who died on Monday night at the GTB hospital tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

The toll due to swine flu has now reached 10 in the city. “A total of 10 deaths due to swine flu have been recorded in the city till date. The 40-year-old woman has been identified as Selji Puri. She was admitted to the GTB hospital and she passed away yesterday at 10.30 pm.

“Today her test reports confirmed that she was positive for swine flu. All these days she was undergoing treatment at the Max Health Care and she was shifted here yesterday.” Delhi nodal officer for swine flu monitoring,Dr R P Vashisth said.

Debashish Kar,the 26-year-old man who passed away today,was admitted with the RML hospital on September 12. “For 12 long days he had not seen any doctor. He was admitted with us when his condition is in a deteriorated state. He passed away today at 11.30 am,” Dr N K Chaturvedi,medical superintendent,RML Hospital,said.

The first death due to swine flu was reported on August 19. Altogether,four women,two children and four men have died till date.
