Compared to industrial health mixes, homemade mixes may not contain added sugar or preservatives which is why, they may be better for children and adults, experts suggest.

Does it work?
Powders made out of nuts, seeds, and roasted grams contain essential nutrients, and with little flavouring these drinks can be both nourishing and enriching for children, said registered dietitian Garima Goyal.
“Nuts like almonds are energy-dense. However, getting the children into the routine of eating them daily may be hard. To combat this, flavouring milk with these healthy powders will definitely come in handy,” said Goyal.
Notably, almonds are rich sources of antioxidants like vitamin E and omega 3 fatty acids and helps better the immunity of children. “Combining them with more nutritious options like foxnuts or makhana adds more value. Foxnuts are low in calorie and contains many essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium, calcium, and phosphorous,” said Goyal.
These healthy powders mixed in nourishing fresh milk, again improve the nutritional value by adding protein to the kids’ diet, added Goyal.
Is it necessary?
With picky eaters, bringing the right nutrition to the table can be tedious. “While we cannot always rely on industrial-based health drinks, homemade mixes with quality nuts, seeds, and grains are one of the best options,” Goyal said.
