Exercise has numerous benefits for your body. But making it a daily part of your life needs consistency and the way to go about it is to consider it like a routine activity just like brushing your teeth. Lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho explained it that no matter what whether it is Diwali, Christmas, festivals, a marriage party or holidays, get your exercise in. “Whatever you love, do it,” he shared in an Instagram post.
He further expressed, “Make it like brushing your teeth…until it becomes a part of you…create movement every day…create magic in your body through movement.”
Dr Imraan Khan (PT), consultant head physiotherapist, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road stressed that comparing exercise to brushing your teeth emphasises the idea of incorporating it into your daily routine for long-term health benefits.
Here are some parallels:
1. Daily habit: Just as you brush your teeth daily to maintain oral hygiene, regular exercise is essential for overall physical health. Making it a daily habit contributes to sustained well-being.
2. Preventive maintenance: Both exercise and brushing your teeth serve as forms of preventive maintenance. Regular physical activity helps prevent various health issues, while brushing helps prevent dental problems.
3. Consistency matters: Consistent effort is crucial for both exercise and dental care. Regularity in these activities enhances their effectiveness in promoting long-term health.
4. Routine for well-being: Incorporating exercise into your routine, much like brushing your teeth, contributes to your overall well-being. Both practices support a healthier lifestyle.
5. Establishing a pattern: Just as brushing your teeth becomes second nature, integrating exercise into your routine establishes a pattern that becomes a natural part of your day.
6. Preventive health measures: Both exercise and dental hygiene are proactive measures to prevent health issues. Regular physical activity reduces the risk of chronic diseases, while brushing helps prevent cavities and gum disease.
7. Long-term benefits: The benefits of exercise and dental care are not always immediately apparent but accrue over time. Consistent efforts lead to long-term positive outcomes.
“By viewing exercise as a daily habit similar to brushing your teeth, you’re more likely to prioritise and integrate it into your routine. Both contribute to your overall health, emphasising the importance of consistent and preventive actions for a healthier life,” said Dr Khan.
