Masaba Gupta is embracing her postpartum phase with mindfulness, focusing on rest and recovery through well-planned diets and fitness routines. In a recent Instagram post, the fashion designer shared a glimpse into her daily workout routine, documenting pulling off a Chakrasana with practised ease.. “The first Chakrasana postpartum feels like being reborn. But no better way to end a year… or start a new one for that matter,” she captioned the post.

Indianexpress.com spoke to an expert to understand the precautions new mothers should consider before attempting this yoga pose.

Tushar Bisht, wellness and yogic science expert at Veda Rehabilitation and Wellness explained that Chakrasana or the wheel pose, is a back-bending yoga posture where the body arches to resemble a wheel. This pose offers several health benefits, including improved flexibility, strengthened muscles, and an open chest. It also stimulates the endocrine system, enhancing overall vitality.

According to him, there are a few things that one should keep in mind while doing Chakrasana or wheel pose, such as avoiding if you have injuries or conditions i.e. spinal issues, wrist problems, shoulder injuries; maintain proper alignment.

Precautions to ensure the safety for new moms

For new mothers considering Chakrasana, Bisht stressed it is essential to take certain precautions to ensure safety. First, he recommended consulting with a healthcare professional to confirm that this pose is appropriate for the postpartum recovery stage.

“Ensure a thorough warm-up to prepare muscles and joints, reducing the risk of injury. Avoid this pose if you have any spinal issues, wrist problems, or shoulder injuries, as it can exacerbate these conditions. Maintaining proper alignment during the pose is crucial; improper form can lead to strain or injury,” he said.

He also recommended practicing under the guidance of a qualified yoga instructor who can provide personalised adjustments. Incorporating Chakrasana into your yoga routine can be beneficial, but it’s vital to approach it with caution and awareness, especially during the postpartum period.
