Security forces on Tuesday sealed a densely populated locality of Sopore town in Baramulla district to flush out some Lashkar militants, who are believed to be hiding there, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off that some militants are holed up in Baghat-e-Batpora locality in Sopore, about 55 km from here,a joint team of police and Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off the area, they said.

A few shots were heard when the security personnel were conducting a house-to-house search, but it was not clear whether the firing was resorted to by militants to break the security cordon or by the security forces as part of their operational strategy, they said.

However, there was no report of any casualty from the besieged locality, they said.
