The Jharkhand Police Wednesday arrested five people, including a woman, for their alleged involvement in an extortion racket and in smuggling weapons into India from Pakistan using drones.

The group — which police said operated under the name Koyalanchal Shanti Sena (KSS) — was allegedly being run under the direction of Prince Khan, a Dhanbad-based gangster believed to be in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Speaking to The Indian Express, Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said Khan coordinated the supply of weapons from Pakistan through drone drops along the Punjab border near Moga. The weapons were then allegedly routed to Jharkhand with the help of local operatives linked to another accused, Sujit Sinha. “Though Sujit Sinha is currently lodged in jail, the local coordination was handled by his men and wife. They were responsible for logistics, threats, and distribution,” an officer said.

Rana said Khan sent threatening videos from Dubai to individuals in Jharkhand. “He used to make members record videos outside people’s houses, which were then sent to him. Using those, he would issue threats to the industrialists and traders, saying ‘we have seen your house,’” the officer added.

The five arrested have been identified as Inamul Haq alias Bablu Khan, Ravi Anand alias Singha, Md Shahid alias Afridi Khan, Md Seraj alias Madan, and Riya Sinha, wife of Sujit Sinha. Police said Riya allegedly coordinated the gang’s extortion activities.

Sinha, earlier lodged in Palamu Jail, has now been moved to Sahibganj Jail. “Sinha’s gang primarily operates in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal while Khan operates from the UAE,” Rana said.

Police allegedly recovered three weapons and several rounds of ammunition from the accused in Ranchi. Officials said the KSS was behind multiple cases of extortion and intimidation across Ranchi and Dhanbad, including the firing incident at Ranchi’s Doranda last month.

“They even circulated fake videos with added machine gun audio to exaggerate the firing,” Rana said about the firing in Dhanbad.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Ranjan, the arrests were made following a tip-off under the supervision of City SP Rana and Sadar DSP Sanjeev Besra. The crime branch is investigating the larger network, including the alleged weapons supply route between Punjab and Jharkhand.
