The Committee on Petitions of Lok Sabha, which was scheduled to hear Malegaon blast case accused Lt Colonel (retd) Prasad S Purohit’s views on a representation regarding initiating criminal cases against government servants without obtaining prior sanction for prosecution on October 25, is learnt to have postponed its meeting.

However, there is no clarity on the next date of meeting.

It is learnt that the committee, headed by BJP member Harish Dwivedi, was scheduled to hear Purohit’s views on October 25. The committee had also circulated a notice of the meeting among its members.

However, the committee has now postponed the meeting and the members are informed.

“To hear the views of Lt. Colonel Prasad S. Purohit (retd) on the representation of Shri Sunil V Abhyankar regarding initiating criminal cases against government servants without obtaining prior sanction for prosecution as laid down under Section 197 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, & other matters connected thereto,” read committee’s notice circulated on October 11.

Besides hearing Purohit’s views, the committee was also scheduled to have a “briefing/oral evidence” of the representatives of the Ministry of Defence (Department of Military

Affairs) on Abhyankar’s representation in its October 25 meeting.

This has also been postponed, it is learnt.
