A Delhi court today directed Tihar jail authorities to submit a report on Amar Singh’s health condition while hearing a bail plea of the Rajya Sabha MP,who was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday in 2008 cash-for-vote case.

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal also asked prison authorities to apprise her of the conditions in which the high-profile politician is being kept in jail after a brief hearing on Singh’s bail plea seeking relief on health grounds.

“I am calling for a report from the jail superintendent on his (Amar Singh) health condition and how is he being kept there in the jail,” the judge said.

Pleading for grant of bail to the 55-year-old former Samajwadi Party general secretary, counsel Hariharan said Singh has to share a common toilet with other inmates in the jail, which renders him vulnerable to infections and it would worsen his urinary tract infection.

He told the court that Amar Singh has been visiting his doctor in Singapore regularly after undergoing kidney transplant there and said his next appointment with the doctor was scheduled for September 9.

Ex-BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora, accused in the case, too have moved applications for interim bail. The court has listed their bail pleas for hearing on September 13.
