Under the NDA government’s Global Initiative For Academic Networks (GIAN), an international academician could be paid as much as US$12,000 for a 20-day teaching session in Indian institutes.
As per the initiative, the scholars would teach in centrally-funded educational bodies like IITs and central universities and in institutes with an ‘A’ grade. All details are being finalised before US President Barack Obama’s visit later this month.
Under GIAN, India will invite and host up to 1,000 American scholars every year to teach in India. This was decided during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US last year. “Emphasis is being laid on offering a good package so as to attract the best faculties,” said an official in the HRD Ministry.
