With all internal roads black topped and tents pitched up on the bank of river Chenab,Gulabgarh a sleepy village in remote Paddar area of Kishtwar tehsil,has been spruced up to receive Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama who is arriving here on his first ever visit on June 5.
During his visit,he is scheduled to inaugurate a Buddhist Centre,address a multi religious congregation and attend the annual day function of a school being run by Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Society (HBCS). Significantly,nearly 90 per cent of the total population of Paddar tehsil comprise of Hindus and Muslims.
With Divisional Commissioner,Jammu,Pawan Kotwal,along with Kishtwars Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police overseeing arrangements,tight security measures have been initiated in view of the Dalai Lamas visit to the area which had once been a hot bed of militancy.
Sources said that nearly 15,000 to 20,000 people from across the state,neighbouring Punjab and Himachal Pradesh are expected to visit Gulabgarh which touches Zanskar in Ladakh region on one side and falls in close proximity to Pangu Valley of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh.
All preparations have been made keeping in view the arrival of such a large number of people to Gulabgarh which has a population of nearly 3,000 people. Apart from pitching up tents,various government buildings too have been got vacated by the administration to accommodate people arriving in connection with Dalai Lamas visit.
