A day after the CBI lodged a disproportionate assets case against former Telecom Minister A Raja and 16 others, including his wife, CBI sources said Thursday that they found 6 kg gold ornaments worth around Rs 1.6 crore during searches at 24 locations. They added that CBI also found 20 kg silver ornaments and 200 documents related to properties during searches at houses and offices belonging to Raja, including his New Delhi residence.
The CBI had Wednesday conducted searches in Chennai, Delhi, Coimbatore, Perambalur and Trichy in the disproportionate assets case.

It had said the searches led to recovery of several incriminating documents, including financial statements, I-T returns, immovable property documents, bills, vouchers and invoices. Certain bank accounts and fixed deposits in the names of the accused were also identified, the CBI said.
After the haul, a case was lodged against Raja for allegedly amassing assets worth Rs 27.92 crore “disproportionate to his known and lawful sources of income’’. In 2011, the CBI had filed a case against Raja in connection with his alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.
