Arunachal student leader arrested for alleged links to militant group

Ranjan Kumar Chakma alias Sabhananu has been charged under six IPC sections including attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and waging war against the state as well as under the Arms Act and the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act.

Police have arrested the president of the All Chakma Students’ Union of Arunachal for alleged links to a newly established Chakma militant group, The Arunachal Times reports.

Ranjan Kumar Chakma alias Sabhananu has been charged under six IPC sections including attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and waging war against the state as well as under the Arms Act and the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act.

His student-body colleague Arunjit Chakma alias Habedang, the general secretary of the ACSUA, had earlier been arrested for alleged links with the Arunachal Pradesh Deprived People’s Front (APDPF), the militant group.
