The Chhattisgarh government has sent a showcause notice to IAS officer Alex Paul Menon after he “questioned the judiciary” in a social media post. Menon, who wrote the post in June, is currently posted as the CEO of the Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society in Raipur.

On his Facebook page on June 18, Menon had posted the following: “Is there a bias in India’s legal system with 94% of Indians on death row being either Muslim or Dalit?”

A senior government official confirmed that a showcause notice had been sent to Menon, and he had been given time to reply.

“Such posts are in violation of the service and conduct rules of administrative officers. This became an issue in the state as well, and we have therefore sent him a showcause notice,” the officer said.

Menon, however, said that he had nothing to say on the issue. Earlier this year, there were protests organised against Menon in Balrampur after he posted articles which seemed to support JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar. He was transferred out of Balrampur soon after. The IAS officer was infamously abducted by Naxals for 13 days when he was posted as Collector, Sukma.
