INDIA on Friday lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the digging of a tunnel from across the international border into its territory in the R S Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

A 3 X 4 ft tunnel, dug up 10 ft below the ground, was detected nearly 30 m inside the Indian territory in R S Pura’s Allah Mai De Kothey area Thursday. However, it was incomplete and had neither crossed the barbed wire fence, nor opened inside Indian territory.

“We have lodged strong protest with Pakistan Rangers at the Sector Commander-level flag meeting held in the morning,” said BSF Inspector General for Jammu Frontier, Rakesh Sharma.

Meanwhile, Director General of BSF K K Sharma, too, visited the site where the tunnel was spotted.

This tunnel was the fourth one emanating from the Pakistan side which was detected in border areas in Jammu and Samba districts in the past four years. Claiming to have foiled a major terror plan to strike ahead of the Amarnath pilgrimage, IG BSF said it was to be used by terrorists for infiltration and to carry arms.
