Amarnath yatra resumes after day-long halt due to inclement weather

After a day-long halt due to bad weather, Amarnath Yatra resumed on Saturday and pilgrims were allowed to move towards the holy cave.

“Yatra has resumed since morning as the weather is better now. The yatra will continue according to the serial numbers issued by the board to the pilgrims,” said an official of the Shrine board.

Heavy rainfall had earlier caused a road block on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday and Friday forcing 68 vehicles carrying the pilgrims to stop midway.

“The highway is open for traffic now and the yatris are arriving at the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps,” the official said.

After heavy rains lashed Valley on Friday, hundreds of pilgrims who were staying at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps were asked to stay put at their camps.
