Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Sunday joined Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra.
Yadav agreed to join the yatra on Thursday, a day after the two parties declared seat-sharing arrangement for the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh as part of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc.
As per the INDIA bloc’s arrangement, the Congress is set to contest on 63 seats in the state. The remaining 63 seats will be contested by the Samajwadi Party and other parties willing to be part of the INDIA alliance.
At the yatra event in Agra, the Samajwadi Party leader said: “…I would like to thank the public…In the coming days, the biggest challenge is to save the democracy, and the Constitution, to fulfil the dreams of Dr BR Ambedkar, that has been ruined by the BJP… ‘BJP haatao, desh bachao…”
Earlier, Akhilesh, who had assured to join the yatra either in Amethi or Raebareli, had backed out saying he would only join the procession after the seat-sharing talks are finalised.
