18 jawans injured in accidental blast in J&K army camp

Defense spokesman, Lt Col NN Joshi, said that eighteen soldiers were injured in the “accidental incident,” and all of the injured who are undergoing treatment at army hospital are stable.

Eighteen Army personnel were wounded in an accidental explosion during training at an Army school at Khrew in Pulwama district in South Kashmir Saturday. The Army has ordered a court of inquiry into the accident.

Defence spokesman Lt Col N N Joshi said 18 soldiers were injured in the “accidental incident” and added that the condition of all of them, undergoing treatment at Army’s Base Hospital, was stable.

“In an unfortunate incident, which occurred at Army Training Camp Khrew, 18 Army personnel were injured,” Joshi said adding that injured are being treated at Army’s Base Hospital. “A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate into the cause of the accident.”

A senior army official told The Indian Express that the blast took place inside the Corps battle school, when soldiers were undergoing usual training. The official said the incident occurred at 8.45 am and the injured soldiers were immediately taken to Base Hospital.

When asked what led to the explosion, the official said only the investigations would establish the facts.

 

 

The J&K Police said their team was not allowed to enter the Army camp. “We have reports that 18 soldiers were injured,” SP Awantipora Mohammed Irshad said.
