On the occasion of Mammootty‘s 72nd birthday, the first trailer of his upcoming investigative thriller, Kannur Squad, was released by the makers. Helmed by Roby Varghese Raj, the film is produced by Mammootty himself. It is written by Muhammad Shafi and Rony David Raj.
The trailer promises an intriguing thriller where Mammootty plays the role of an ASI and is assigned a “tricky case”. He leads his team in solving the case by outsmarting the antagonists. He also goes undercover to nab the criminals and gives them a tough fight.
The official logline of the film reads, “The gripping saga of a police officer and his team, their challenging journey to nab a criminal gang across the country. Further, it shows how he leads his team towards triumph, amidst professional uncertainities in this gripping drama.”
Besides Mammootty, the film stars Kishore, Vijayaraghavan, Rony David Raj, Azeez Nedumangad, Shabareesh Varma, Sarath Sabha, and Sunny Wayne. The crew of the film includes cinematographer Muhammed Rahil, music director Sushin Shyam, editor Praveen Prabhakar, production designer Shaji Naduvil, makeup artist Ronex Xavier, costume designers Arun Manohar and Abhijith, and sound designer Tony Babu. Dulquer Salmaan‘s production house Wayfarer Films will distribute the movie in Kerala.
Kannur Squad marks Mammootty’s production house Mammootty Kampany’s fourth venture after Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Rorschach, and Kaathal – The Core. A part of the film was shot at the Malayalam superstar’s college, Ernakulam-based Maharaja’s College, where he got all nostalgic. The makers are yet to announce the release date of the film.
Besides the trailer of Kannur Squad, the first-look posters of Mammootty’s upcoming film, Bramayugam, were also released on his birthday. The movie is directed by Bhoothakaalam fame Rahul Sadasivan and produced by Nigh Shift Studios and YNot Studios. In the black and white poster, the Malayalam star is unrecognisable as he sits bare chest, giving a wry smile to the camera.
Rahul Sadasivan, the film’s writer-director, had earlier said in a statement, “I am elated to be living the dream of directing the stalwart Mammookka. Bramayugam is a rooted story set in the dark ages of Kerala, and I am glad to be backed by the producers in pushing the boundaries of making this into an immersive film experience. I hope it will be a treat to Mammookka’s fans and fans of the genre across the world.”
