The University of Strathclyde has introduced a new MSc in Statistics and Data Science, a conversion course for students to gain a foothold in the rapidly expanding fields of data science and applied statistics. The MSc in Statistics & Data Science, which starts in September 2025, is for students with a background in a broad range of disciplines, offering an opportunity to pivot into data science, regardless of prior experience in the field.

The course is for those candidates who are eager to gain skills in data analysis, machine learning, big data processing, predictive modelling, and the use of statistical software such as R and Python, as mentioned in the press release. A minimum second-class (2:2) Honours degree or overseas equivalent is required to be eligible to apply for this course. The fee for international students joining this course is £25,500 ( approx Rs 28,69,418) for the 2025 -26 academic session.

Key benefits of the programme include:

–Students will gain knowledge in processing and analysing complex data, using statistical programming for data analysis, machine learning, and predictive modelling.

–They will learn from experts with deep ties to industry and the public sector, ensuring that the training aligns with current demands and challenges.

–Students will develop the critical skills needed to address complex problems and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders across various industries.

–They will engage with the latest research in the data science field, further enhancing their expertise and understanding of emerging trends and technologies.

To support talented students and to celebrate the 850th anniversary of the city of Glasgow, the Faculty of Science is also offering scholarships to all eligible postgraduate taught, self-funded, international (non-EU) fee-paying students, joining an on-campus course in the Faculty of Science in September 2025.
