Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day 2025 Holiday in Schools: Schools, colleges and other educational institutions across several northern states are expected to remain closed early next week on account of Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day, also observed as Shaheedi Diwas.
The day marks the martyrdom of the ninth Sikh Guru and is widely commemorated with community gatherings and memorial events across Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttarakhand.
According to reports, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially notified the shift of the Shaheedi Diwas holiday from November 24 to November 25, 2025, after revising its gazetted holiday list. The order, issued by the General Administration Department, notes that the earlier schedule has been amended and the new date will apply to all government offices and schools across the state.
Punjab and Haryana usually observe the holiday on November 24, but final announcements for 2025 are awaited. In Delhi, schools typically follow the gazetted holiday declared by the state government, which historically observes Shaheedi Diwas. However, no formal circular has been released yet for the 2025 calendar.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day holds significant cultural and historical importance, marking the Guru’s sacrifice in 1675 while defending religious freedom during the Mughal era. Because of its relevance across North India, educational institutions traditionally opt for a complete closure.
For 2025, parents and students should closely monitor school notices and state government updates to confirm whether the holiday will be observed on November 24 or November 25 in their region.
