Punjab Police Thursday said they had arrested a resident of Uttar Pradesh and recovered at least 373 banned injection vials from his possession.
As per details, the Handesra police had nabbed the suspect, identified as Mohammad Farid, a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Farid was nabbed while he was on his way to Chandigarh from Ambala Cantonment when he was intercepted and arrested.
On checking, the police recovered 175 vials of Buprenorphine (2 ml each), and 198 vials of Pheniramine Maleate (10 ml each) from his possession.
Dera Bassi Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Darpan Ahluwalia said that Farid had been working at a Meerut-based cloth factory since he was 10-years-old and had taken to peddling drugs to make easy money.
“He is married and has a daughter. Our probe so far has revealed that Farid used to peddle drugs to Chandigarh on behalf of a man called Danish and used to get Rs 3,000 for every consignment he ferried. Farid’s last visit to Chandigarh was around a month ago. This time, while on his way to Chandigarh, he had alighted from the bus at Punjab’s border near Ambala due to police checking. Later, he tried to take another route and reach Chandigarh via Handesra, Barwala and Panchkula. He had hired a tempo traveller and walked on foot for a little distance to avoid suspicion. However, he was apprehended by the police,” the officer said.
ASP Ahluwalia added that the accused used to deliver the injections in Chandigarh to his client.
