A 53-year-old man, who was declared brain dead on September 18, was able to save two lives after his family members consented to donate his organs.
Authorities at DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital in Pimpri, Pune, said the man was suffering from intra-cerebral bleeding and was admitted to a hospital on September 14. He was declared brain dead on September 18 and post counselling, his family members agreed to donate his organs.
The transplants took place on September 19. While a 55-year-old male received the man’s liver, another 33-year-old patient at DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital was the recipient of one of his kidneys. Hospital authorities said both the patients who received the man’s organs are now recovering.
While the brain-dead man’s corneas were also donated, another kidney was shared with another hospital in Pune.
In yet another successful complex cadaveric organ transplant surgery, authorities at Ruby Hall Clinic were able to convince the family members of a 22-year-old man, who was declared brain dead due to an intra-cranial bleed resulting from hypertension, to donate his organs.
